January 2011

At WorkHi, I'm Mandi, owner of Blond | Brain Digital Studio. I grew up in Alaska, and then married my high school sweetheart a few years after he joined the US Coast Guard. Since then, we've moved all over the country. I've lived in all six US time zones along the way! I've nearly got all the major zip code divisions collected too - that is, a zip code that starts with "0", "1" and so on. I'm only missing a "2" zip code, and a "5." Perhaps the Coast Guard will oblige us with future assignments so I have the full set :-D!

Although studio services are a new venture for me, I've been involved in All Things Digital for over 15 years. I build, fix, and upgrade my own computer systems (and for most of the people in my life!) and spent years involved in all phases of internet development, including graphic design. Along the way, I acquired first one, and then another digital camera, primarily using them just for family snapshots and the occasional web graphic. In January 2008, I got my first digital SLR (well, really my first SLR altogether) and my eyes were opened!

A few years ago, I took a break from internet development to return to college full time, and in my spare time (ha) I found myself becoming focused more and more on photography. I began undertaking formal shooting sessions, learning how to obtain the relaxed, unposed images I favor. Blessed with great friends and family who have encouraged me, I decided it was time to approach the work more professionally. I want to help individuals and families preserve memories of important milestones their lives. I want them to have an end product they'll treasure for several generations. I look forward to working with you!

Photo credits! I obviously did not take the photos of myself taking photos. My daughter Tori took the very recent photo above, and my very good friend Amanda W. took the image that appears in the header graphic. Thank you so much to both of them - I never get pictures of myself, nevermind actually engaged in photography! Aside from product images where it is more representative to use a supplier's graphic or minor elements that support site functionality, I have created all the images on this site (and even in those cases, graphics are customized to suit my needs.) Portfolio and Store images that represent artwork or portraiture are absolutely my original work, and you may rely on them as representative of the quality of work I will do for you. To make this distinction clear, all of my own photography work as it appears online is watermarked as such. This is to both spotlight original work for the viewer, and to protect my rights to the images against illegal downloading and unauthorized usage.

Site credits! I create and maintain this website myself, with the help of the best webhost on the planet, FutureQuestFutureQuest Web Hosting. I've been with them for different projects since 1998, and I wouldn't have this site anywhere else. I use an old fashioned text editor and secure FTP primarily, and write all of the code by hand. I use WordPress for the blog feature, and Instaproofs for gallery/print ordering. The flash portfolio feature is authored using a plugin for Picasa.
